As the mother of three girls, I really am an expert on Kids Pink Shoes

Pretty much anything pink, in fact.

Our current shoe lineup includes (honest, I’m not kidding): two pairs of pink crocs, a pair of pink ballerina slippers, pink dress-up heels (of course!), three pairs of pink sandals, a pair of pink “sparkly” shoes, two pairs of pink tennis shoes, a pair of pink cowboy boots and three pairs of pink winter boots.

Eeek. I must be single-handedly keeping the kids pink shoes business afloat!

All this makes me wonder — why pink? I’ve really tried not to turn my girls into little princesses. They do plenty of non-girly-girl stuff, and we play with Legos and dinosaurs as much as we play with Barbie.

I’ve read the research, such as the data that there actually are color preferences — and researchers believe girls are pre-programmed to like pink. “Researchers said these differences may have a basis in evolution in which females developed a preference for reddish colors associated with riper fruit and healthier faces.” (Reuters)

This leads into the whole nature-vs-nurture debate, as found on multiple forums (here’s an example at Yahoo answers). I really did try not to contribute to the “nurture” part by dressing my kids in pink when they were babies — I was the only mom whose kids actually had black dresses (which were unbelievably hard to find).

Well, the good news is that as a “Kids Pink Shoes” Afficianado, I’ve created this site for those of you out there whose children share our addiction to kids pink shoes. My philosophy is, who cares if my kids wear pink or any color under the sun. I’ll do pretty much anything to make sure my kids are comfortable and happy!

Do you have any theories about why kids pink shoes — and pink everything — are so popular? Be sure to let me know your thoughts!
